Waverly Place Literary Agency

After eleven years in the West Village, Waverly Place Literary Agency has moved to Brooklyn to be closer to writing talent. Literary agent Debbie Carter will be attending book events for emerging writers (and avid readers) at indie bookstores and libraries in the area. If you’re traveling to NYC for a writers’ conference, it’s worth adding a day to your itinerary for a visit to Brooklyn for a walk, lunch, and a trip to a bookstore. People here love to talk books.

I look forward to hearing your pitches. Here are the bookselling categories I’m looking for.

Literary novels and short story collections with popular appeal; mysteries/thrillers, espionage fiction & nonfiction; historical fiction for a target audience; literary narrative nonfiction, memoirs and biography about extraordinary people and experiences; travel; history; pop culture, music, the arts; nostalgia, and anything not mentioned here that writers feel would be of interest. See website for children’s fiction/nonfiction interests. Particularly interested in multicultural fiction for adults and children. Special call for first novels with characters in their 20s and 30s. Exclusions: category romance, chick lit, science fiction, fantasy, horror; or in fiction or nonfiction religious/spiritual subject matter, gratuitous violence, a sentimental outlook, stories of victimhood or illness. Authors who are dynamic public speakers are welcomed.
