Theresa “Soni” Guzman Stokes

Theresa “Soni” Guzman Stokes is the founder and executive director of Historical Writers of America (HWA). She has a professional background that includes military service, marketing, web designer, magazine editor and published writer with a focus on ethnic American history. Her current works-in-progress include a Civil War era novel, a history of African Americans in Newport, Rhode Island; and the history of Civil Rights in Rhode Island. While managing HWA, she continues working on research projects with her husband, Keith Stokes. Together, they received the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities Prize for Creative Achievement in the Humanities.
