Exploring Viewpoint: Who Should Tell Your Story?

This session will focus on the concept of viewpoint in fiction and how to determine which viewpoint to use for a given manuscript. We will cover 1st person, 3rd limited and omniscient, and multi-POV narratives. 2nd person will be mentioned but not discussed at length since it is uncommon. We will also explore the nuances, pros, and cons of each viewpoint style, their relationship with the modern publishing industry, and how to follow their rules (and artfully break them). By the end of the presentation, attendees will feel more confident about navigating viewpoints in their own manuscripts, determining which ones are necessary, and how choosing a given viewpoint affects their manuscript as a whole.
