Writers encounter many legal issues during the process of writing and publishing their books. Whether you are concerned about potential copyright infringement, writing about people you know, trademarks, or other legal issues, this presentation will help you better understand what you can and cannot do, potential legal risks, and when you should seek legal counsel. You will learn the following:
- What is a copyright
- What is a trademark
- What is fair use
- What is defamation
- The right of publicity
The goal of this class is to give you a basic foundational knowledge of copyright law, the First Amendment, and legal issues you are likely to encounter as a writer. We will reserve time at the end of the session to take questions from the attendees.
